Tonka

Intr-o lume in care prea multi oameni nu sunt foarte atasati de muzica, exista artisti care divineaza muzica si artisti care traiesc pentru ea. Acesti artisti isi consuma toare resurele pentru a intelege si a compune muzica. Procesul de invatare a acestei forme de arta minunata nu se va opri niciodata pentru ca pentru unii, e un drum pe care il vor urma toata viata. Muzicienii "infectati” cu acest virus al explorarii, cautarii infinite de sounduri noi, au depasit pragul unui simplu job, transformandu-si intreaga activitate intr-un joc al celor mai valabile descoperiri, bazate pur pe intuitie.

Tonka este, cu singuranta, unul dintre cei care-si bazeaza intreaga activitate pe intuitie innascuta. Mandru posesor a peste 40.000 de viniluri, artistul german isi petrece majoritatea timpului devorand cele mai noi piese aparute, si nu doar din zona electronica a muzicii, ci si din indie rock, oldschool hip-hop sau 80’s synthetiser pop. Uneori, in momentele potrivite, artistul devoreaza si ceva felii de chicage house sau italo disco.

Tonka si-a inceput ilustra cariera impreuna cu cel mai bun prieten al sau, Ian Pooley, in 1991. Folosind pseuidionime ca T’N’I, Space Cube sau Outrage, acestia au lansat o multime de piese techno, house si breakbeat la case de discuri cel putin underground, precum Force Inc. (Germania), Edge Records (UK) sau R&S (Belgia). Dupa ce a obtinut notorietatea mult ravnita, Tonka s-a concentrat pe a lansa "groundbreaking cut up disco" la deja legendatul Force Inc. US imprint.

In zilele noastre, Tonka a revenit in forta printre marile nume ale scenei muzicale internationale. Dupa o pauza de aproape 4 ani, timp in care s-a stabilit in Munich cu tot cu noul sau studio, Tonka a lansat in 2008 doua piese care l-au readus in centrul atentiei: Freeze si Orca sunt doua piese incredibile de tech-house, aparute la Great Stuff Recordings. Piesele au fost mai mult decat bine primite atat de public, cat si de artisti precum Carl Cox, Tiga, Switch, Gregor Tresher, Axwell, Ben Watt sau Peter Kruder.

Dar, in ce-l priveste pe Tonka, nu putem sa-i laudam reusitele din 2008 fara sa ne amintim de cele mai de succes piese ale sale, She Knows You si Don't Be Afraid, piese care inca se bucura de difuzari pe posturile tv chiar si din Romania.
